Under instruction from
Grand Master Yoda Jedi Master Kit Fisto and Padawan
Ahsoka Tano have been dispatched to a clone medical and
re-habitation facility on the planet Sacorria to
interview the sole surviving clone trooper of a
completed mission. Ahsoka voices her disquiet to Master
Fisto about this "waste of time" mission
comforting wounded clones but Kit Fisto replies that her
presence on this assignment was the request of Yoda, not
Anakin's, and so there must be more to the mission than
meets the eye.
They are introduced to the injured clone trooper,
Sergeant Marrt of the 182nd Legion, who had requested to
discuss his mission only with a Jedi. Marrt tells the
two Jedi that three weeks ago his four-man Scout Unit
was ordered to investigate claims that a Republic
weapons factory on the planet Belgaroth was trading with
the Separatists. Upon their arrival on Belgaroth they
successfully infiltrated the weapons factory and Marrt
personally overheard the factory's manager, Tarin,
accepting a bribe from Reep Tonith, a member of the
Banking Clan, who was there to collect an order of
10,000 grenades. Further infiltrations into the
factory's files revealed that the manager was supplying
Fex-M3 nerve gas grenades to the Separatists, but as
Marrt tries to escape undetected with a grenade as
evidence, he his spotted by a droid patrol and comes
under fire. Supported by his colleagues, Marrt leads his
unit away from the factory and the cover of a swamp.
Unfortunately the swamp does not provide the safety the
clones had hoped for as they are soon attacked by a
large native swamp creature whose armoured skin is
impenetrable by blaster fire. It is not long before
Marrt's three colleagues are killed by the creature and
Marrt barely survives by using the nerve gas grenade on
the creature. Angered by both the loss of his men and
the betrayal of the factory's manager, Marrt swears
vengeance and begins a one-man campaign against the
factory.
Although Reep Tonith escaped Marrt's attacks, his droid
escorts were destroyed by Marrt as well as much of the
factory. But Marrt was seriously injured, losing his
legs as well as many other injuries, before being
rescued. Ahsoka tries to explain to Marrt that Tarin was
interrogated by the Jedi and Republic Intelligence
immediately after Marrt's rescue but claimed that he
didn't know the identity of his superiors who had
ordered the nerve gas on behalf of the Separatists.
However, and this was Marrt's reasons for only speaking
to a Jedi, he had documents taken from the factory
showing that two influential senators were involved in
the weapon's deal with the Separatists. Master Fisto
assures Marrt that the senators would be brought to
justice and Ahsoka tells Kit Fisto that she has learned
their mission's lesson: the actions of one can affect
the lives of many. |
